Would you believe me if I told you King George use Would you believe me if I told you King George uses this shower? Swipe for proof 😂

🐱Meet King George…! The entire process with this client was around how her and her husband lived as empty nesters AND around their two cats. We had a goal to bring in materials that they could scratch, enjoy and not destroy. Before demoing their master bathroom they told us that the cats would turn on the soaking tub faucet and play in it. We’ve never met cats that loved the water so much. Let alone ones that are so spoiled to have this full marble shower 😂. The only part of the shower dedicated to the clients are the body sprays.

When it came to the shower this couple spent little time in it and were very minimal on what they needed to store in there as well. The body sprays were put at a height we measured for their back. And the shower controls are set up so all functions can be on. We love doing a “set it and forget it” temperate control so you just turn it on every time at your favorite temperature.

When tile shopping we found this floor tile and the moment we showed the wife she fell in love. It’s a great small format that allowed us to continue it in the shower and out by the vanity without needing to cut for the drain. It’s also the perfect shade marble to allow aging to happen without it being an eye sore.

Nothing more satisfying than bringing our clients Nothing more satisfying than bringing our clients taste and vision mixed with their lifestyle to reality.

Some background on this client… they were downsizing from a single family in Salem to their condo in Cambridge. They were officially grandparents (but when you see them you’d never think they were old enough to be them), they had traveled around the world and back. Lived in so many unique places, collected trinkets, artwork and memories they wanted to bring to their home in Cambridge. The wife is a professional chef and an award winning author and the most humble woman given her success. She’s probably reading this correcting my grammar 😂. The husband was in the music industry and a founder of a record label to now a collector and seller of antique cars. In both of their line of work they were exposed to a lot of inspiration.

I share this as their home truly is a collection on ONLY things that they love. They commission custom wallpaper from their friend that is an artist, fell in love with marjorelle blue on their travels (you’ll see a photo in their hidden pantry on our website), fell in love with this backsplash prior to hiring us and we were able to incorporate the pendants they had in their past house above the island as they had significance to them. The cookbooks in the hallway displayed makes the wife smile, the countertops are this incredible quartzite that the wife and husband adore as the wife can chef it up without worrying about them, the walnut is the husbands favorite, and even down the wall colors.

Everything that was picked in this condo was something they absolutely loved.

When designing the kitchen we took a full inventory of what they had, measuring all items that were oversized and created a layout with the wife with interior organizers.

To us, this was such an incredible process working with a client that loves color, trusts the process and was capable of being totally transparent so we could take how they live, what they love and blend it together.

More to come on this project as there is a lot more to this story!

We’ve yet to have a client that doesn’t fall i We’ve yet to have a client that doesn’t fall in love with their countertops.

For us this is such an important phase of the project. We go stone shopping almost right away as it sets the tone for some areas. It is so important to find one that fits your lifestyle and esthetics. There are a million paint colors but only so many slabs of stone to choose from. The way we approach stone shopping is really straight forward. We don’t stop and look at every stone we keep walking until something stops you in your tracks. If it doesn’t, we keep moving. It’s wild, call us crazy but it works every time.

We had one client go shopping without us and selected a granite that had small flecks of red in it. When we called the client they explained it was the closest thing they liked. And for us, closest doesn’t work. We want it to be perfect and we know it’s not too much to expect given the amount of inventory we have access to here in MA. So we carved out times that worked for everyone to go together and they ended up finding the most incredible blue quartzite and the rest is history. This taught us that it is too overwhelming for anyone that isn’t studying stone to go alone. Now we make this a priority to do as a team. The ironic part to this story is the husband loved everything white, had a vision of an all white kitchen then saw this stone and it redefined the entire kitchen in his mind in the best way possible. The cover photo is a picture of the stone they chose.

If you don’t love your stone we don’t want it. Once you have stone you love, you’ll wonder how you went so long without it.

Did you know in the MA State House the floors are a mix of white marbles. They look incredible and with the boston weather- they’ve held up very well. Knowing the stones characteristics helps us navigate what ones will fit your lifestyle. As we mentioned when on This Old House, we find a stone that caters to how you live. And we’ll leave you with this, your home should be a collection of things you love and we don’t stop until we get a reaction that reflects that.
Wise words, Babe. When we discussed this quote a Wise words, Babe.

When we discussed this quote as a team, our designer @catarinevdesigns brought up how we should talk about changes that come up on home renovations or new builds.

They happen and any builder we work with echos this… things will happen and we will figure it out. Between plumbers, electricians, painters, custom millwork, finish crews, sound and audio… tile crew etc etc I don’t think it’d be a stretch to say collaboratively we’ve seen it all. Something we love to credit our builders for is doing their best to find that talent to ensure when things come up they have a team that can support us all when we need it.

Moral of this is… find a team you know when things don’t go as planned they’re able to pivot. When it comes to pairing you with a builder we always start and end with personality. In the end you need to work with someone it is easy to be upfront with. Some say, well he’s going to be over budget. Our response would be well then let’s get him to work with our budget. Value engineering is a skill all builders have and one we love to be involved with as we can move the needles too. It’s a fun dance when you’re doing it with people you enjoy being around.
We give you permission to remove the guest coat cl We give you permission to remove the guest coat closet and get that pantry you’ve been dreaming about.

When we first met this client she insisted we come through the garage as all of her guests do. As we began designing that very convo came to our minds. We realized there was absolutely no need for a guest closet by the front door if no one used the front door. If we got rid of it we could gain a dream pantry for this family.

Why would you keep a closet that is not used efficiently to satisfy what is “typical?” These are the types of things we uncover when working with you. Will you use the pantry many times a day vs the coat closet a few times a year? We ask questions to see where there may be an opportunity for your lifestyle to benefit with something more meaningful.

Letting go of this coat closet allowed for us to get an incredible walk in pantry with wallpaper the client had dreams about, a larger kitchen and a larger mudroom off the garage door. Wild to think a closet that was 3’ by 2’ being removed added so much value to the clients way of living. But this is what we do and what we do well 🙌🏽

After all - we are designing your home… it should cater to how you live.

Come photoshoot it’s bittersweet. After having Come photoshoot it’s bittersweet.

After having spent almost three years with this client it’s a love hate winding down with them. There is hope, they just bought a Maine home 😉.

When we first met this client we were hired to design the kitchen, powder room, master and kids bathroom. Once we got started they added the guest bathroom, living room, sitting room and a facelift to the dining room. Since our process covers how you live from day to day and season to season it really allows for the scope to grow as we have a solid foundation already. It also allows for us to truly know how each of the rooms should communicate either each other.

When designing the kitchen we saw an opportunity to transform a wide hallway between the side door and the kitchen into a mudroom. I think a super power of ours is being able to find a spot for a mudroom in any project. We added a plastered opening (it was wide open before) and that allows us to get a bench with wall cabinets and having a plastered opening allowed for it to feel tucked away yet still opened to the kitchen. Shoes tuck nicely under and everything has a place. We can’t imagine living in New England without a dedicated area for a mudroom. It doesn’t need to be big it just needs to have a big impact.
